February 18th, 2018 / Featured Guest Pianist Jacqueline Schwab
We are very excited to announce that our guest performer on Sunday, February 18th, 2018 will be pianist Jacqueline Schwab.
Although she frequently performs her arrangements of vintage American music, for her performance at the Brewster Open Mic Classical, she is looking forward to sharing her “closet love” for classical music. Jacqueline’s music has been fostered by community music making in the traditional folk music and dance community; she is delighted to see this mirrored in the Brewster Open Mic Classical gathering! She will perform 20th-century pieces by Maurice Ravel, Ernesto Nazareth and Ernesto Lecuona.
Pianist Jacqueline Schwab has been widely heard for her distinctive performances infusing the sound tracks of Ken Burns’ documentaries, including Grammy-winning Civil War, Baseball, Lewis and Clark, Mark Twain, The War, The National Parks, and others.
Burns wrote: “Jacqueline Schwab brings more feeling and intensity to music than anyone I know. Her playing is insistent, physical, heartfelt and ... unusually moving.”
Critic Scott Alarik wrote she has “… an uncanny sensitivity to the moods and proprieties from other eras.” She has also performed on The Irish in America, Ric Burns’ New York: A Documentary Film and others and has been composer for documentaries on the painter Mary Cassatt and on Mennonites.
She has performed at the White House for President Clinton, and, with Scottish singer Jean Redpath, on public radio’s A Prairie Home Companion and on CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman.
Jacqueline graduated from the New England Conservatory in Boston, majoring in piano improvisation. She has long played for English dancing with the Bare Necessities quartet, whose flowing, group improvisational style and nationwide performances have inspired new generations of dancers and dance musicians. She has performed solo and collaborative concerts, recorded, taught improvisation, and played for dancing in over forty US states. She is married to Rev. Edmund Robinson, minister of the UU Meeting House in Chatham; they live in Brewster.

An “Open Mic” is for popular music only, right?
WRONG!
We are bringing you Open Mic Classical, a new experience in classical music, to help our community's musicians share their music with a friendly, supportive and appreciative audience.
Are you a doctor with a classical horn habit, or an orchestra member who misses playing in small ensembles? Are you an aspiring young student who doesn't ever get a chance to play with a pianist, but would like to develop your performing skills? Or a composer eager to try out your newest work?
Dust off your flugelhorn, oil your keys, drink your raw egg, and come share your talent in an intimate and casual atmosphere.
Admission is donation based, and classical musicians of all ages and levels are welcome.
Pianist on site is available on request to accompany you.
“Open Mic Classical” is brought to you by clarinetist Mónika Woods (winner of the Cape Symphony's 2013 Soloist Competition) and amateur violist and sculptor Robert Marcus, with a great list of collaborative pianists including Lucy Banner, Ana Glig, Anne Perrault, Elizabeth Tipton, Sylvia Karkush Furash.
It is held at 3:00 pm on the third Sunday of the month October through June at the Brewster Meeting House (1969 Main Street on Route 6A). Participants are asked to sign up in an email or by phone, not later than in at 2:30pm on the day of the event, rehearsal with pianist on request a 1-2 weeks before the event.
